Welcome to the
Counselor's Corner

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome back for the 2011- 2012 school year.  My name is Vivian Omari, and this is my seventh year serving as school counselor here at Morris Brandon Elementary.  I am excited about the wonderful learning possibilities that await our children this year. A considerable amount of time will be spent building reading, writing and math skills. Time will also be allotted for students to explore their individual interest and acquire new knowledge for personal growth and self-discovery.  This is a significant time in your child’s academic, personal and social development and I am here to support and encourage them through out these important developmental years.  I will listen and not judge what they say or how they say what they feel.

Here are some reasons to talk with me:

  • “I’m getting bullied and I don’t know what to do about it.”
  • “My best friend isn’t talking to me and it’s making me really sad.”
  • “My dad is getting deployed and I’d like someone to talk with while he’s away.”
  • “Some friends and I had a problem at recess; can you help us work it out?”
  • “I just moved here and I’m a little nervous.”
  • “I just want to talk to someone who want laugh at me.”
  • “I can’t control my anger.”
  • “My parents are getting a divorce and I’m confused.”
  • “I get in trouble a lot in class and on the playground.”

Here are some reasons parents might talk with me:

  • “My son doesn’t want to go to school in the morning.”
  • “I’m concerned because my child keeps telling me he doesn’t have any friends.  Do you think a Friendship Group might help?”
  • “We recently had a death in the family, and I’m not sure how to tell my child.”
  • “My ex-husband and I have been divorced for two years, but we think our child could benefit from talking with other kids who are going through the same thing.”
  • “My child seems to get really frustrated doing her homework and nothing I say seems to help.”
  • “My child has mood swings and I don’t know what to do to help her.”

Please remember that I am here to serve you and your children and I would like to encourage you to contact me at (404) 802-7262 or stop by my office with any concerns.

Sincerely,

Vivian Omari
