Dear Parents,

Welcome back!!! We are so glad to have you and your child here at Fickett Elementary School. Our Second Grade team has planned an awesome instructional year for your child. Our goal is to have your child engaged daily and create life-long learners.

This year, I will be leading your child on an educational journey that will be full of exciting activities and learning experiences. My goal is to have your child actively engaged and exploring each and every day. Reaching this goal will be a team effort and your support will be greatly appreciated. Make sure that your child is prepared, well-rested and ready for the journey each day. Preparation includes: notebook paper, 2 red pens, 2 number 2 pencils, signed homework folders daily.

Please review the student supply list, student handbook, and complete the student information form, parent questionnaire, and student inventory forms that are in this Welcome Packet. The information will help me to find out what your child’s interests are and ways in which you’re able to help throughout the year. Parent involvement is very important!

Grading Scale

Grades are determined based on the following numerical value:

100-90 = A

89-80 = B

79-70= C

Anything below C is considered failing.

Homework Policy

Homework counts for 10% of your child’s final grade. Your child will have homework daily. Homework is expected to be completed and returned on Friday morning. Please have your child circle any problem or concept that he/she may have experienced difficulty with so that we may discuss the item the following day. Your child is also expected to read at least 30 minutes a day and document the books read on their homework sheet.

Uniforms

Uniforms are to be worn Monday through Wednesday. White shirts are to be worn on Mondays. Thursday is “Dress for Success”; your child should come dressed in business/business casual attire. Friday is “Blue and Gold Day” and your child should wear blue, gold, or blue and gold to show school spirit.

Conduct

Children are expected to be respectful, responsible, and safe at all times. Each child must do their part in creating a learning environment in which everyone feels safe, respected, and comfortable with sharing their thoughts and ideas. Please discuss with your child the importance of always being respectful, responsible, and safe. There will be zero tolerance for fighting, teasing, and bullying.

Each child will start off with 5 points at the beginning of each day. If your child breaks a classroom rule, they will be given a warning. Every time after the initial warning your child will lose a point. Please check your child’s Homework Folder daily for their final behavioral points. Your signature will be required which will serve as acknowledgement of your child’s behavior for each day. If your child has a weekly score lower than 20 points at the end of each week, your child will not receive a prize.
