Kori Sanchez Smith

Kori Smith is a proud native of Berkeley, California.  She started her teaching career in a small Title I school in California after receiving her B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Spelman College. To be better equipped to meet the emotional needs of her students, Kori completed a M.Ed. in Community Counseling at the University of Oklahoma.  Since starting her career, Kori has taught in urban districts, a charter school and a private school in both Title I and non-Title I settings across three states.  As a teacher leader and administrator, Kori has lead professional development in curriculum and design, the International Baccalaureate framework and Response to Intervention. Before becoming SEL Coordinator, Kori was an Assistant Principal at Morris Brandon where she developed an in-depth knowledge of community building, shared decision making, program implementation and teacher development and evaluation.

Dr. Veneschia Bryant is a graduate of Atlanta Public Schools. Having taught in both Clayton County Schools and Atlanta Public Schools, Veneschia has served in the roles of classroom teacher, Early Intervention Teacher, Literacy Coach, Instructional Technology Specialist, Learning Technologies Manager, Assistant Principal, and currently, Social Emotional Learning Coach. With a BS from Georgia State University in Early Childhood Education, and additional graduate degrees from Georgia State University, Nova Southeastern University, Troy State University and Fielding Graduate Institute, learning and growing are essential to Dr. Bryant’s character. As an overly enthused member of the APS Social Emotional Learning Team, Dr. Bryant is completely committed to the “heart-work” embedded in SEL practices.

Clara Totenberg Green is an Atlanta native and graduate of Atlanta Public Schools. She received a B.A. from New York University in Latin American History and Politics, and a M.A.T. in Social Studies Education from Georgia State University. She has taught English and Social Studies in both Atlanta and Ecuador. Most recently, Clara taught at The Kindezi Schools, an APS charter school group. She was awarded Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2015, and served as co-coordinator of Social Emotional Learning programming. She has also written curriculum that embraces culturally relevant pedagogy and social justice themes for several organizations. Clara is thrilled to be part of the APS SEL team, where she is able to bring her passion for holistic education to all children across the city of Atlanta.

Erick Metzger grew up in Indiana and attended both public and private schools.  He received a B.A. from Lee University, a M.A.Ed. from Tennessee Tech University, and an Educational Specialist from Lincoln University.   He was a classroom educator for 13 years in a variety of school settings before becoming a Social Emotional Learning coach for Atlanta Public Schools.  As a teacher he taught second, third, fourth and fifth grades.  During that time Mr. Metzger co-taught a full inclusion class and looped with his students allowing his students continuity and familiarity. In this setting, he further crafted his ability to meet the needs of the whole child for every child.   When not at work he enjoys spending time with friends and traveling the world experiencing different cultures.

CoachTara Shelton received her B.A. from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN and her M.Ed. from State University of West Georgia both in the area of Special Education. During the first seven years of her career Tara was an Interrelated Special Education teacher for the DeKalb County School System. Within Atlanta Public Schools, Tara has served as a Preschool Behavior Specialist, where she started her work in assisting teachers on providing quality instruction in social and emotional skills. Prior to this assignment, Tara served as the Diagnostic Teacher at Heritage Academy, where she received   Teacher of the Year, and as an Early Intervention Program Teacher at Thomasville Heights.  Tara has a passion for the social well-being of people, and she is thrilled to be a part of the Atlanta Public Schools’ mission to develop the whole person.

Dorothy Anntionette Thompson known as “Anntionette” was born and raised in Georgia.    She earned her Bachelors of Psychology with a concentration in Counseling from Morris Brown College, and a Master’s in Counseling and Psychology from Troy State University.  Anntoinette began her career in Fulton County Public Schools as a Pre-K Coordinator, Professional School Counselor and SST/504 Coordinator.  After working in education and in the mental health field, Anntionette also completed an advanced degree in School Counseling from Fort Valley State University and a specialist degree in counseling and psychology from the University of West Alabama.  More recently, she completed a SEL 101 graduate course at St. Elizabeth College. Anntionette serves on the board of many mental health agencies and has also served as Vice President for Fulton County School Counseling Association.

Lindsay Wyczalkowski

Lindsay Wyczalkowski received a B.A. from UCLA, before completing a M.Ed. from Georgia State University in Urban Education.   She is an 11 year veteran in the classroom, working as an elementary classroom teacher, before joining the SEL team as a coach in 2015.  In her tenure with APS, she received the Teacher of the Year award, representing Atlanta Public Schools as a district semi-finalist. Lindsay also has a key leadership role on the Superintendent Teacher Advisory Committee and was a collaborating teacher-author on the book, In the Service of Learning and Empowerment-Service Learning, Critical Pedagogy, and the Problem-Solution Project. In addition to her work in APS, Lindsay serves as a consultant with Metro RESA and other organizations, providing professional development to teachers around Georgia on curriculum, and teacher and student empowerment.

Jennifer Young is bringing her experience as a special education teacher and positive behavior instructional support teacher to this roll along with her heart for service. She has worked in education for ten years and has always kept the overall wellbeing of her students, their families, and their communities at the center of her work. Obtaining her Master of Education degree in Behavior and Learning Disabilities from Georgia State opened her eyes to the specific skills needed to support every child on their journey to educational excellence. With a renewed focus on Social Emotional Learning Jennifer looks to uplift and energize the culture and climate of each school that she works with.
