Applying for a NCLB School Choice Transfer

Any student that is enrolled in a Title I school that is identified as a Needs Improvement school is eligible for a transfer to another school that has made Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years.  The district will make parents aware of the receiving schools that are available for transfer requests.  It is important to note that priority is given to the lowest-achieving children from low-income families.  The district is responsible for transportation.

Parents are notified by mail if a school has been placed on the Needs Improvement list and has to offer choice transfers.  The letters will specifically address why the school is on the Needs Improvement list, efforts that are underway at the school to address the issues, and the process for submitting an application for a choice transfer. Applications for a Choice Transfer are accepted in the Office of Student Placement at the Center for Learning and Leadership (CLL Building) 130 Trinity Avenue, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30303.  Parents will be notified via U.S. Mail when the transfer request has been completed and approved. 

Elementary and middle school students will be provided transportation on an APS school bus. For those elementary and middle school students riding the bus, school bus stops will be developed based upon your current address and a bus schedule will be available at your transfer school. High school students who need transportation will receive MARTA Breeze Cards. Each transfer school will designate a person to provide your child with a MARTA Breeze Card on a weekly basis.
