![]() Welcome to the Program for Adult Education The Atlanta Public Schools Adult Education Program provides free academic services, GED preparation and English as a Second Language to adults in Atlanta and Fulton County. Classes are open to individuals age 18 and older regardless of their formal level of education. Individuals under 18 (ages 16 and 17) may also enroll in the program if they are not currently enrolled in school and have a parent's or guardian's permission to enroll. All participants must present valid identification to participate in the program. All classes are free. Spotlights GED Graduation The GED Graduation Ceremony is held each year to honor those students that studied in our program and obtained a GED. International Literacy Month September is Adult Literacy Month. During September local classes have recognition programs to spotlight the Adult Education Program. The work that we do is emphasized to bring awareness of the benifits adults receive after upgrading their education and/or obtaining a GED. EAGLE Awards Each year one outstanding Adult Education student is recognized by the state of Georgia from each Service Delivery Area. The student is nominated by his/her teacher after the student has received the GED Certificate. The EAGLE Awards are held yearly during the month of Febuary. Professional Learning Quarterly Professional Learning Sessions: All Adult Education staff members attend Professional Learning sessions each quarter. The sessions focuses on a varity of concepts including best classroom practices, computer data base training, and other areas of interest in Adult Education. Local training sessions are held in the months of: July, November, March and May. There is also a Fall Conference that is sponsored by the State Adult Education Office annualy that provides addtional professional learning sessions.
