Meet Our Principal, Mrs. Yolonda C. Brown
Yolonda C. Brown has served as an educator in the Atlanta Public Schools since 1994. She began her pursuit and passion for educating children at Clemson University where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She received a Master’s Degree in Middle Grades Education from Mercer University Atlanta and her Instructional Supervision Endorsement and Educational Leadership Certification from Clark-Atlanta University.
During the first six years of her career in education, Mrs. Brown served as a Middle School Teacher at Thurgood Marshall Middle School where she taught 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Science and Social Studies. In 1999, Mrs. Brown was selected as the Atlanta Public Schools System-Wide Middle School Teacher of the Year. Shortly after receiving this distinct honor, she was selected as a Model Teacher Leader Facilitator for the Atlanta Systemic Initiative (ASI) where she was selected to work for a National Science Foundation Grant awarded to the Atlanta Public Schools to improve science and mathematics instruction and achievement. Through her work with the ASI grant, she coordinated and conducted site-based professional development for teachers and administrators on effective implementation of a standards-based curriculum, inquiry- based learning, alternative assessment, instructional models and technology integration. Upon district inception of the School Reform Teams, Mrs. Brown was selected to serve as a Model Teacher Leader for School Reform Team 1.
Previously, Mrs. Brown was the Principal at C.W. Hill Elementary School where she served for four years. During her tenure as Principal, C.W. Hill achieved the following:
Mrs. Brown is a native of South Carolina and enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends, as well as, watching football, reading, dancing and listening to all genres of music. She is married and the proud mother of a son in middle school.
