Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Academy website. My name is Raymond L. Dawson and I am the Academy Leader. Prior to becoming a part of the Grady high school administrative team, I taught mathematics for 7 years in both the Atlanta Public Schools and the Rochester City School District. Since that time I was an Instructional Technology Specialist, Title I budget manager, adjunct technology instructor at Atlanta Metropolitan College and corporate trainer. My education consist of both a Bachelor and Masters of Science degree in education, with a concentration in mathematics. Currently I hold a P-8 teaching certificate and P-12 administrative certificate in state of Georgia, as well as K-5 and 6-9 (mathematics) teaching certificate in New York state. I am also a Microsoft Office certified trainer.
It's my assumption that your visit today is to learn more about the academy and what it has to offer your child. Therefore it is my hope that you will find all of the information you need and more. This is a very exciting time for us as we celebrate our third year as an academy and the evolution of a new junior class. We also celebrate the increased level of interest we’ve gained each year by our feeder middle school students and their families. We credit this growth to our highly qualified biomedical science, engineering and core teachers, who expose our students to a variety of hands-on experiences, field experiences, tours, and quality instruction in the basic fundamentals and advanced levels of each course of study. Collectively, our academy encourages students to maximize their instructional time, demonstrate good citizenship, explore extra-curricular activities of interest, take pride in our school and minimize excuses for failure. Our motto for this 2012-2013 school year is “We do it now!” meaning, our students commit to do what is required of them by their teachers in learning the content and convincingly pass their classes, the first time. We further believe the summer and/or Saturdays should be for enjoying time with friends and family and not for summer school or Saturday credit recovery programs.
Please take time to visit each of our academy webpages to learn more about our teachers, academy programs and special events that will take place this 2012 - 2013 school year. If you should have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call me or our teachers. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to serving in the educational and developmental growth of your child during their time with us here at Grady High school.
