I am so appreciative to have the opportunity to serve the Atlanta Public Schools as the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Everyone in the department has been working diligently over the past two months to review our processes, procedures, strengths, and areas for improvement. This work, plus insights from outside studies of the district and feedback from our internal and external stakeholders, resulted in a new structure for the Human Resources (HR) Department.
During this week’s State of the Schools address, Dr. Carstarphen announced that the district and its HR Department will set a new standard for how we recruit, attract, retain, promote and support the very best talent at every single level of APS. I am excited to lead the work behind this charge and expect our district to become recognized as a world class organization that supports the recruitment and retention of outstanding employees that will enhance the district’s vision for student achievement.
What can you expect from our reorganized department?
On Monday, September 15, the Office of Human Resources will be reorganized to provide improved service to schools, employees, and the community. A summary of the reorganization can be found on our website. Most notably, the HR@YourService call center is closing. The phone number 404-802-2300 and email email@example.com will continue to be answered until October 31.
Instead of calling one number for the department, please use the newly-published contact list to reach the appropriate staff member directly. When in doubt, contact the front desk at 404-802-2312 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Further, the employee benefits department has moved from HR back to Finance. Contact information for the benefits staff remain the same and is currently posted on the web site.
The HR staff and I welcome your calls, emails, and visits to the office. We continue to be located on the 3rd floor of the CLL building, and phone extensions for staff remain the same. Please send your suggestions/concerns/questions to me at email@example.com. Look for more updates to come as we continue to improve our department. I look forward to working with each of you as we serve the APS community.
